[Ninja Character Background]
Only those with the will to live for the future may reach the village of this elusive and unsettling clan.
As not everyone has the capacity to meet them, their existence is seen as somewhat of a myth.

[Jutsu] Bond of Death, Bond of Life
A technique that allows the user to reunite with a loved one who has passed away. Depending on the person, they may only be able to hear their voice or see their figure. There are some rare instances where the target does not return to reality, and in those cases their remaining lifespan is transferred to the user. To activate the technique, one must place their hands together and chant the jutsu's name.

Ikemoto's Comments
They have a very atmospheric style. I like how unique it is. Arriving at a mysterious clan's village is an RPG cliché, but it's one I'm personally very fond of. I think it would be a good setting for a movie or a side story. It really gets my imagination flowing.

[Ninja Character Background]
A towering man and rogue ninja from the Village Hidden in the Clouds. Despite his status as a rogue ninja, he is a serious and honest individual who is greatly concerned with the military decline of his village in the modern era and has established an unofficial ninja army to protect it.
The members of this army consist of shinobi not from his village, but those from other villages who are under his control. After the Raikage found out about this, Utoi went rogue and fled.
But even after his desertion, his loyalty remains to his home village, and he works together with his organization to protect it from the outside by taking down bandits and building up their manpower.

[Jutsu] Wind Style: Oxy-doll
A technique that is activated when the opponent inhales small amounts of chakra mixed into the air. It reduces the oxygen concentration in their brain, forcing them to lose consciousness, and allowing the user to take control of their body's movements.

Ikemoto's Comments
This guy is bad news. He might see his actions as just and righteous, but that doesn't change the fact that he's one misstep away from becoming a full-blown terrorist. His technique is also powerful, and hard to deal with given how it mixes chakra into the air. He seems to have a warped sense of ethics, so it's no wonder he's considered a dangerous individual by his own village. The military-style outfit also matches his personality and atmosphere. He'd make a great villain. I mean that as a compliment, of course.

And so, the above two ninja are now certified "star ninja"!

[Ninja Character Background]
A member of the Kodai clan who have lived in the Hidden Stone for generations. He was born with an extra fang-like protrusion located on each of his elbows. All he knows about his mother is that she is from a different village, and he longs to find out more about where he comes from.

[Jutsu] Earth Style: Strata Seal
Encases the target in soil, sealing them away. The sealed target is perfectly preserved. It can also be used to temporarily protect allies.

Ikemoto's Comments
At first glance he looks very strong. It also seems like he's not human. Since we don't know where he comes from, I wonder if perhaps his ancestors were from outer space. The world of Naruto and Boruto is currently under siege from the Otsutsuki and the Divine Trees, so I hope he at least turns out to be on our side.

[Ninja Character Background]
She's skilled in fortune-telling and often performs flower readings. It is rumored that her readings are very accurate, which draws large groups to her.

[Jutsu] Flower Bind / Flower Illusion
Flower Bind: Allows one to control others by manipulating the language and scents of flowers.

Flower Illusion: A flower pattern appears in the user's eyes when fighting, creating an illusory flower field that robs the enemy of their will to fight.

Ikemoto's Comments
This is a nice design. The hairstyle and accessories, everything just comes together in such a cute way that I seriously struggled with whether or not she should be a "star ninja". Her abilities and character setting are also good. I wish there'd been a version with her eyes open, too.

[Ninja Character Background]
A Genin of the Hidden Leaf Village. He's clumsy and quickly gets full of himself, but is kind at heart. He's quite skilled with shuriken and has a bad habit of charging in on his own and getting injured.

[Jutsu] Human Summoning / Punch Barrage!
Human Summoning: Calls forth Kakashi!

Punch Barrage: Using his hands, he delivers a series of chakra-infused punches at blinding speed.

Ikemoto's Comments
So he's a ninja dog, huh? Whether he can talk or not is unclear as there is nothing written about it here, but we have to assume communication is at least possible. That he can use a "human summoning" jutsu to call forth Kakashi is pretty surprising. Clearly he's not to be underestimated.

[Ninja Character Background]
Kaoru is a ninja who currently works as the Hidden Leaf Village's number 1 host! He is in his early twenties. When asked why he keeps his exact age a secret he said, "We all love a good mystery, don't we?"

[Ninjutsu] Ecstasy Style: Hikou Kanrou
Releases the sweetest scent one will ever experience. Just one sniff of it will stimulate the dopamine in your brain, creating an overwhelming pleasurable sensation. Since the fragrance is released as a mist, the amount created by the jutsu is adjustable.

Ikemoto's Comments
With the shinobi world now at peace, it seems a lot of ninja have been struggling to find where they belong and some have even turned to nightlife professions. With his scent-related Kekkei Genkai being unsuitable for stealth, he's chosen to compete in a less violent arena where popularity dictates the victor. A place that can only be sustained in a world without strife.

[Ninja Character Background]
A 17-year-old Jonin of the Hidden Leaf Village. A kunoichi with a love for fashionable clothing. The only daughter of the head of the Hachimura clan, who control bees and use them in battle.

Ikemoto's Comments
At first glance she gives off a really cute and trendy vibe, but taking the whole picture into account, being able to control bees is actually pretty terrifying. Get stung enough and you could go into shock and maybe even end up at death's door. We don't have enough intel to know how many bees she can control at once, but probably better to err on the side of caution and avoid making her angry.

[Ninja Character Background]
A quiet and reserved 16-year-old with a tendency to exhibit a more ferocious side when engaged in battle. Although she comes from a middle-class family, she already has a fiancé. She thinks she's too young to be married, so she tends to give her fiancé the cold shoulder.

[Jutsu] Flowers of the Kotodama
Strings together a continuous stream of words as if singing a song, in order to summon phantasms that confuse enemies. Those caught by this technique will be unable to escape the phantasms for a full day.

Ikemoto's Comments
This is also a really cute design. It might just be a coincidence, but I feel like a lot of works have been making use of flowers and flower language recently. But being engaged at 16... I can't imagine how strict her family upbringing must have been. I hope she can find true happiness someday.

[Ninja Character Background]
A wily kunoichi from the Village Hidden in The Mist who specializes in genjutsu. She has a pessimistic outlook on life, causing her to often make negative comments. She's in a relationship with a non-shinobi who lives in the Village Hidden in the Mist, but due to the number of missions she gets sent out on, they can only meet once a year.

[Jutsu] Genjutsu: Wavering Star / Genjutsu: Relinquished Hope
Genjutsu: Wavering Star: Interferes with the target's mental state, rendering them incapable of making any decisions without them realizing it. This jutsu is especially effective against leader-types and those prone to taking decisive actions.

Genjutsu: Relinquished Hope: Forces the target to confess their innermost hopes and desires. The person targeted by this jutsu will have no memory of their confession. Used during negotiations and to torture enemies. This jutsu can only be used once a day.

Ikemoto's Comments
The character design and setting are both fantastic. I especially like the bold contrast around her waist. The jutsu names are also quite creative and well thought-out. It seems like she's in a relationship, but I wonder if the two are in a truly equal relationship. The more I think about her powers, the scarier they become.

[Ninja Character Background]
Can mold chakra into an elastic string. He fights with a rope dart. Most of his assigned missions are related to intelligence or subterfuge. He's a powerful genjutsu user. Although he has trouble flattering others when he's not using his jutsu, he is pretty good with his hands. He wants to be able to make a living off his handmade goods, but because they don't sell, and because he has such a handsome face, he tends to rely on his female suitors to make ends meet.

[Jutsu] Tunnel Vision / Sweet / Possessive String
Tunnel Vision: Spins the whistle attached to the rope dart to make sound waves, activating Whistle Style: Tunnel Vision which forces his targets to focus on him.

Sweet: While wearing a ring made of metallic string and holding the hand of one whose heart is growing distant, he chants "sweet" to cast a genjutsu that rekindles the fire in their heart.

Possessive String: The opponent is bound with string and enthralled with a genjutsu to prevent their escape while they are sealed away.

Ikemoto's Comments
It's pretty funny that he can change his chakra into strings and use them in an ability that forces his target to open up their purse strings. Despite my first impression of this guy, his abilities are well-crafted and finely tuned to perfectly complement his personality. Well done.

[Ninja Character Background]
She specializes in surprise attacks and tends to climb up trees and hide in wait. She loves fashion and worries that her hair is too coarse. Her favorite food is gelatin dessert. She gets an upset stomach when she eats watermelons.

[Jutsu] Ninja Art! Decapitating Spike Jutsu!
This is a ninjutsu where she closes in on her opponent and grabs their neck or waist before releasing large spikes from her arms. The main downside of this technique is that she has to get into melee range for it to work, but it's powerful enough to live up to its name and send heads flying.

Ikemoto's Comments
Just like her name implies, she's wielding a pretty scary ability! Hugging her enemies before impaling them with spikes is just way too cruel. Once you fall into her arms, you're as good as gone. What a way to go.

[Ninja Character Background]
A shinobi who loves knitting and cute things. Specializes in missions that require pursuing or tailing a target. Fights with two oversized knitting needles and uses them to knit together her and her opponent's chakra to weave things into existence.

[Jutsu] Amiami
Stretches out chakra like yarn and weaves it to create clothes or stuffed animals. The stuffed animals are able to move on their own and are able to chase down or shadow their targets. The clothes she makes are sturdy and have high defensive capabilities.

Ikemoto's Comments
What else could I expect from a past star ninja finalist? Her pose and fearless expression are incredibly well done. Upon first glance, one might assume that she's not affiliated with the shinobi world, but she clearly exudes the aura of someone that has a lot more going on under the surface. I get a sense that the more one looks at her the more they'd find themselves thinking, "No, this girl HAS to be a ninja, right?" If that's what you were trying to convey here, you hit the bullseye.

[Ninja Character Background]
She's loved cleaning ever since she was a child, and in the process of getting tough stains out of every nook and cranny, she started to want to clean the dirt out of people's hearts as well. She became a shinobi intent on purging evil thoughts from those around her, from the average person down to the most atrocious villain.
As a shinobi, she tries to act like a consummate professional, but deep down she's extremely empathetic and cannot refuse a request from someone in need.

[Jutsu] Phantom Contamination
Mixes her chakra into her disinfectant spray, casting a genjutsu on enemies who are sprayed with it.
Victims of the genjutsu will see themselves and the area around them covered in an amount of filth they can't properly wrap their mind around. The efficacy varies depending on the target; some people will lose the will to fight, others will want to clean up as soon as possible, and some might not even be affected by it at all.
She often uses this jutsu because she doesn't want to hurt anybody and ends up getting yelled at by her teammates for not fighting.

Ikemoto's Comments
She's a shinobi who is kind to a fault, choosing to show her enemies a world covered in filth rather than engage them in direct combat... However, I'm wondering if she puts her cleaning tools in the same pouch as her shuriken and kunai. I can't stop thinking about whether she has a way to keep them separate or just has them all jumbled up in there. Please understand, this isn't me giving a critique or anything, I'm just honestly curious.

[Ninja Character Background]
Has a hobby of naming his personal items (with a tendency to derive names from his own), so each of his kunai has its own name. Some may find his resting face somewhat scary, but he's cute when he smiles. He likes round things.

[Jutsu] Perpetual Perception Pursuit
Squeezes the trigger of the gun to instantly discharge a highly compressed chakra bullet. While tracking the target, the chakra bullet will continue to follow them until it strikes them or another object.

Ikemoto's Comments
Here we have an entry from a second former ninja star. The competition just keeps getting fiercer. This time we have an entry with an extremely useful jutsu. If only Inojin could use this...is something I found myself thinking about a lot. Incredibly well-done.

[Ninja Character Background]
A 17-year-old Chunin who's been hailed as a genius at medical ninjutsu since she was a child. She lost an eye when the hospital she was working at became the setting for a battle with a criminal organization and was subsequently destroyed. Almost none of her patients survived. Afterwards, she joined the Hidden Leaf Village's Torture and Interrogation Unit in order to track down those involved in the incident, where she trains under Morino Ibiki. Using Lightning Style needles, she's able to attack criminals' nerves and extract information from them.

[Jutsu] Metal Eye / Healing Needles
Using "Metal Eye" she can create chakra-infused metal items including her "Healing Needles." She can use the Healing Needles to treat her patients.

Ikemoto's Comments
What can I say? In a design lacking in quirks or eccentricities, her hairstyle is what stands out to me. It radiates the aura of a powerful fighter. The fact that she has such a common name only works in her favor. It doesn't add or take anything away from her and maintains a delicate balance. I think it'd be interesting if she was actually a weak character. It'd be a fun way to subvert expectations.

[Ninja Character Background]
A girl working at the Hidden Leaf Village's most popular teahouse and pub. Her true identity is that she's a shinobi. Due to how her abilities can often be negatively received by others, she tries her best to avoid stepping on any toes and hides her powers to live life as an ordinary person. She's not registered as a ninja in the village, and neither the Hokage nor the higher ups know of her existence. She lives as a true ninja among ninja. Her hat and headphones are her trademark look.
When she hears top secret information, she reports it anonymously to the village, doing her part to maintain the peace.

[Jutsu] Eavesdropping Jutsu / The Walls Have Ears Jutsu
She can infuse chakra into a spot she touches with her hands to link it to one of her five senses for a period of time. She can adjust the length of the jutsu depending on how long her hands were in contact with the spot, and how much chakra she infuses into it. If she infuses a lot of chakra, she can link one of her five senses for a long time even if she barely touches the area. And if she touches the area for a long time, she can link one of her five senses for a long time with a minimal amount of chakra.
Once an area has been linked to her senses, it will remain that way until the infused chakra runs out. If she links multiple spots with her sense of sight, smell, and hearing, she'll overload herself with information and become sick.

Ikemoto's Comments
This character is able to infuse her chakra into walls and small objects and link them to her senses of sight and hearing in order to gather information, right? This is a super interesting power, but in the Hidden Leaf Village, using these powers without being affiliated with an organization could get her in some serious trouble. Sensory type shinobi could easily find out about her and bring her in for questioning. How would she get out of this predicament? Would she simply fall in line and join an organization, or would she flee the village and go down a darker path? I think what happens in her future would be really interesting.

Designs submitted to the Boruto Star Certification contest must be entirely your own. If you win but it is discovered you used someone else's design, you will be disqualified. Mailed entries will not be returned, and will be disposed of after a certain period of time. If you want to keep your entry, please make a copy before mailing it. Rights to entries will be retained by the creators, but entries may be published in releases/announcements regarding this contest, Boruto manga volumes, the V Jump magazine, the official V Jump and Boruto X accounts, and official Shueisha sites such as V JUMP WEB and the NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE.
